Good evening, Friends.
I am very excited about all of the great things we did this past week. First of all, thank you to Officer Morris from the Carmel Police Department for coming to talk to us during Thursday English Classes to answer our questions and to tell us about how to handle specific situations. He gave us great information about what to do during traffic stops and what to expect. He informed us about the dangers of using our phones while driving as well as talked about the usual mistakes people make when driving. One huge impression to remember is that every action a police officer takes is to protect us and keep us safe. Don't ever hesitate to call the police when you need help.
Akemi dropped by some slices of her cheese cakes. A few of us were able to sample. You can order them directly from her (http://myungmiusa.wix.com/tokyocheesecake#!about_us/c1se). You can buy them at Racias Creative Cakes (328 West Main Street, Carmel). Beginning this Saturday, she will be at the Fisher's Farmers' Market 11601 Municipal Drive in Fishers.
International Friends met at the church on Tuesday and we made pinatas for our Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Pinatas are paper mache shapes that are filled with treats and small prizes. To play, children are blindfolded and then swing at the pinata with a bat to break it so the treats can be grabbed by the party goers. Lupita explained that much like St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo isn't a big holiday in Mexico. It is an American-made excuse to celebrate.
We read John 8:31-41 at International Bible Study. Jesus teaches, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. (verses 31-32)." This is a powerful message of hope and joy.
