Dear Friends:
I am so sorry to have our classes wrap up for the year. It seems that we just started the year! It has been great getting to know you (and getting to know you better). And, if you haven't had enough....
This summer we are excited to offer a couple specialized workshops (free of charge):
American Accent Training: practice your conversational English and learn the American accent to improve your communication.
Tuesdays, 10:30-13:00 in room 201/203
Session 1: May 19, May 26, June 2, and June 9
Session 2: July 7, July 21, July 28 and August 4
English in Chinese: Learn and practice English vocabulary and grammar explained in Mandarin
Thursdays, 2:00-3:00pm in room 201/203
July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, and August 6
Children may come and hang out in the room next door (bring a game, a book, small toys, etc.). If you would like to volunteer to watch the kids, or have an older child in need of volunteer hours, bring them along!
Have a great summer! And see you next fall (starting the end of August)
Love,
Carolyn
sorry: regret, be disappointed
wrap up: finish
hang out: spend time

Summer is Here!
Summer is finally here, Friends!
Starting Mother's Day weekend, you can plant your garden with seedlings without fear of frost. This rule of thumb has always been reliable (just ask my grandpa!).
This Tuesday at International Friends we celebrated Cinco de Mayo. It was so nice to go out to lunch together. Ole! Mexico City Grill is a great place for some authentic Mexican food, and the inside decorations are wonderful!
International Bible Study we read John 8:42-59. Jesus talks about how people try to accuse Him, but are unable to because He comes from God and tells the truth. He talks about how His glory comes from God, and if the people don't recognize Jesus they won't recognize God. He tells them (58): I tell you the truth, before Abraham was born, I am!" This appears to not be good English until you look a little closer. Moses met with God and asked who he was: God answered, "I am." I am is a statement of being. Jesus is, was, and will be. Jesus is "Yawah" which is Hebrew for God.
Kristina led some great role play/discussions in class. We are glad that she had the opportunity to join us and to teach with us this year. We know that she will be a great ESL teacher this summer when she goes overseas.
In our English Classes Thursday we celebrated the end of the year with a pizza party from Marcos. Thank you to everyone who helped with set up and clean up. This has been a really great year!
If you aren't ready for our classes to end, they don't have to! Come to Summer School!
Join us for :

International Bible Study: Let's finish the story in John (and the other Gospels)
We won't be able to finish all of the book of John on Tuesday, so we will be spoilers and skip to the end! Yes, Jesus taught and healed people. Yes, Jesus died and rose from the dead on the third day. What more could happen in this story?
