Hello, Friends.
Memorial Day is an important American holiday. We honor the military men and women who died in service to our country. If you walk a cemetery over the weekend, you will see flags flying beside the tombstones. There are always parades and speeches.
Memorial day also is the unofficial kick of of the summer. Most swimming pools open BBQs and picnics are a required past time. It is a federal holiday, so don't expect to get official business done on Monday.
Finally, in Indianapolis, Memorial Day ends the month long 500 Festival. The parade is one of the two American parades televised internationally. Wave hi to friends and family all over the world! By all means, try and get out to the track and hear the roar of the Indy Cars. If the race doesn't finish on Sunday due to the weather, then be ready to race on Monday!
Have a great weekend.

International Bible Study
We met for our final Bible Study session and discussed what we have learned this year from our study of the book of Acts. It has been such an amazing adventure to follow the growth of the early Christian Church with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Again and again we see Peter and Paul, as well as many other apostles and disciples, declaring the love of God to the world in the story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Even when those first believers were faced with opposition, imprisonment, and persecution, they persisted in their enthusiastic sharing of the Gospel. Their courage in the face of hardships inspired us. When we are faced with circumstances that bring anxiety and rob us of our peace, we return to the Gospel message that God loves us so much that He sent His Son to rescue us from our sinful state. Jesus died to pay the price for our sins, and He rose on the third day, defeating the devil and death. We have nothing to worry about, since He has won eternal life for us. We have peace and joy always, even when things in this world don't go the way we would like them to. Our study of Acts showed us how important it is to share the Good News of God's love with those around us. May God use our study of Acts to renew our hearts and inspire us with a message that spread to all the corners of the world.
We look forward to a new Bible Study season next fall! - Jan Heiman

We enjoyed a pot luck/pitch in. How nice to share some new recipes and stories.
We have already started planning for next year! Mehrin will teach us to make a beautiful pop-up card. Jacqui will teach us how to make more tiny food. Of course we will celebrate Thanksgiving and have a holiday party. Maybe we should kick off the year with an ice cream social?

Chapter 18 of the book of Acts begins with another example of St. Paul's typical M.O.
As he enters a new city, this time the city of Corinth, he goes first to the synagogue to teach about Jesus. He has wonderful helpers in Corinth, including fellow tent makers Aquila and Priscilla, and eventually also Silas, Timothy, and Apollos. Many Corinthians believe in Jesus, but some of the Jews oppose Paul and become abusive. Paul responds by taking his message of God's love to the Gentiles, to whom he proclaims the salvation won for us by Jesus' death and resurrection. He tells them God loves them, Jesus came to save them, not to condemn them. One night in a vision Jesus says to Paul, "Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city." These words give comfort and encouragement to Paul, and they also comfort and encourage us today! -Jan Heimann
May 9: Join us as we read Acts 19!
International Friends: Tuesdays, 10:30-12:00, room 100
We learned how to make tiny food with Jacqui. This was so much fun! I have been collecting polymer clay, but I was fearful of trying to use it. Jacqui showed us how incredibly easy it is to make and to bake. Creating miniature models is a creative process. You have to look around to adapt usual tools for different effects.
May 9: Our last day of the year! Bring a dish to share. Let's have a party.
Conversation: Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00, room 201
We worked the crossword puzzle in the Easy English News and read the Heroes article.
May 10: Join us for our last official class. We will read and discuss some things out of the May paper and have a little party.
English Classes: Thursdays, 9:30-12:00, upstairs classrooms
Thank you for our most memorable end of year party, ever! We got to celebrate the end of the year together in style with birthday cake! Thank you Carol for telling us about Gene's birthday. Thank you Pastor Borg for serving pizza. Check our Facebook page for the pictures.
May 11: Join us for our last classes...the party isn't over, yet.
